Women’s Tennis Blanks Drew, 9-0

MADISON, N.J. — The Endicott women's tennis team shut out Drew University, 9-0, in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

The doubles pairings of Olivia Martinelli (Coral Springs, Fla.) / Olivia Berler (Marstons Mills, Mass.), Kaitlin Fitzgibbons (Nashua, N.H.) / Yolanda Mendonca (Albany, N.Y.), and Lejla Guster (Wethersfield, Conn.) / Ripley Uyeda (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) won at the No. 2 (8-1), No. 3 (8-3), and No. 1 (8-6) slots, respectively, to jump start the Gulls.

Meanwhile, in singles play, Berler posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5, and Shelby Henry (Lincoln, Neb.) clinched the match at No. 4 (6-2, 6-1).

"Our ladies are competing hard and with a lot of passion," said Endicott women's tennis head coach Anthony D'Angelo. "We stayed on the offensive at every position and have some momentum heading into our next match."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is currently on a four-match winning streak, which dates back to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Semifinals against Gordon (10/21; W, 5-0).
  • Uyeda earned her first career at No. 1 singles (6-4, 6-0).
  • Berler is 5-1 at No. 5 singles this season.
  • Today's match was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Endicott (11-4) hosts Springfield on Sunday, March 27 at 12 PM. Drew (2-7) visits Saint Elizabeth on Saturday, March 19 at 10 AM.
