Women's Tennis Starts Off Conference Play 5-4 Over Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Endicott women's tennis team began their Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) schedule with a critical victory over Roger Williams, 5-4, as the Gulls took two-of-three doubles matches and then the first three singles matches to finish to solidify the victory.  The Gulls improved to 2-1 overall while the Hawks dropped to 1-3 overall with a 1-1 league record. 

Juniors Natalie Egbert (Gorham, Maine) and Chrissy Martel (Westbrook, Conn.) won the top doubles match 8-4 and the #2 doubles duo of junior Amy Heacox (Marion, Mass.) and freshman Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) handled their opponents 8-1.  Endicott held a 2-1 lead in the match after doubles was finished.

Martel followed up her doubles effort with a 7-5, 6-3 win at the top singles flight and Heacox put the Blue and Green ahead 4-1 in the match after taking down her #2 singles opponent 7-5, 6-4.  Sophomore Suzie Newman (Dighton, Mass.) got beat 1-6 in the first set of her #4 singles match, but responded with 6-1 victories of her own in sets two and three to earn Endicott a deciding fifth point.

The Gulls would go on to drop the final three singles matches with each match going to three sets, including two super tiebreaker third sets for Egbert and sophomore Brittany Potter (Bedford, N.H.).

Endicott hosts their first CCC match of the season on Tuesday, September 10th at 3:30 pm against Curry.
