Endicott Shutout in Important Road Test

Endicott Shutout in Important Road Test

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Lauren Blaisdell (Scarborough, Maine) scored on the University of New England's first shot attempt of the game in the 36th minute, and the Nor'easters kept Endicott College off the scoreboard for a 1-0 shutout in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

Endicott (10-6, 6-3 CCC) sees its three-game win streak come to an end, while UNE has now won two of the last three meetings between the two squads after dropping the previous nine. The victory keeps the Nor'easters (11-2-2, 7-0-1 CCC) in a position to secure the top spot in the CCC tournament.

The Gulls, who outshot UNE 11-1 in the opening frame, had several opportunities to tie the match in the second half, but Nor'easter senior goalkeeper Jess Woodworth (Concord, N.H.) was up to the challenge.

Woodworth made a point-blank save on a shot by Endicott sophomore Lexi Dussi (Boxford, Mass.) in the 58th minute, then a close-range attempt by sophomore Nicole Fournier (Milford, Mass.) would sail just over the crossbar in the 83rd minute.
Blaisdell came up with her fourth game-winner of the season after collecting a feed from senior Katie Caron (Winslow, Maine) and directing a shot past Endicott first-year goalkeeper Katie Donnelly (Madison, Conn.).

Woodworth finished with 10 saves to register her seventh shutout of the season and 15th of her career. Donnelly had one save for Endicott, which held a 21-5 advantage in shots and 7-1 margin in corner kicks.

The Gulls conclude their regular season Monday with a non-conference road match at Brandeis University (4 p.m.). The Nor'easters will look to wrap up home-field advantage throughout the playoffs when they host Eastern Nazarene College on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
