BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College Hall of
Famer Shannon Corliss was recently a member of the 10th
annual class to be inducted into the Beverly High School Sports
Hall of Fame. Corliss, a standout soccer player for both the
Panthers and the Gulls was one of ten former Beverly
student-athletes honored for their on and off field contributions
to Beverly High School athletics.
Corliss was inducted into the Endicott Hall of Fame in 2005.
During her time on campus, she was twice named Endicott Female
Athlete of the Year (1998 and 99).
A four year member of the Endicott soccer team, playing from
1996-99, Corliss is currently the all-time leader in career goals
(77) and points (184) and is second all-time in assists (30) in the
Endicott women's soccer records. She led the team to two conference
championships and Endicott's first NCAA Regional Tournament
appearance in 1999.
“Shannon is a soccer legend - I was so thrilled to learn
about her Hall of Fame Induction,” said Dina Gentile, who was
at the helm of the Endicott soccer program during Corliss's career.
“She deserves the recognition because she worked so hard for
her teams and she made an instant impact when she stepped out onto
the field. It is not often that you get to coach special players at
Shannon's caliber and to be inducted into two halls of fame is
impressive.”
Corliss was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC)
Rookie of the Year in 1996 and would go on to win conference player
of the year honors in her next three seasons playing for the Blue
and Green. She was also selected as first team New England by both
the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) and the New England
Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA).
A 1996 graduate of Beverly High, Corliss was a three year starter
on the varsity soccer team and was the captain her senior year. In
1993 and 1994, she helped the Panthers to the Northeast Conference
(NEC) Championship. As a senior, she led the conference in scoring
with 22 goals and seven assists. She was named the NEC MVP, was
selected to the NEC All-Star First Team and to the E.M.G.S.C.A.
All-Star team. Shannon also received the BHS MVP Award and was
chosen to play on the Agganis All-Star Soccer Team.
In addition to her exploits on the soccer field, Corliss was a
prolific basketball player for the Panthers, where she was a four
year starter and two year captain on the Beverly High School
basketball team. She was selected to the NEC All-Star team twice
and in 1996, was named Beverly High School Female Athlete of the
Year.
