NEWISA Selects Four Gulls for All-New England Squad
December 6, 2011
BEVERLY, Mass. – Four players from this year’s Endicott women’s soccer team were chosen as members of the Division III All New England team by the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA). The teams include the best women’s soccer players in the region and are selected by a vote of coaches.
Senior forward Colleen Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) was the top vote-getter across all of Division III and earned a spot on the First Team. She was joined by fellow captain Caitlin Peters (Salem, N.H.). Defender Christine Silva (Stoneham, Mass.) was selected as a member of the Second Team while junior midfielder Chelsea Garlock earned a Third Team nod.
Pepin, who has already earned acclaim this season as Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Senior Scholar Athlete and CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America is selected to the NEWISA First Team for the second year in a row. The striker led the Gulls with 16 goals and 36 points and netted the game-winner five times. Pepin was also invited to play in NEWISA’s annual Senior Bowl this past weekend, where she had two assists to lead her team to a 6-4 victory.
In her junior year, Peters earns her third consecutive NEWISA New England honor. The CCC defensive player of the year, Peters anchored a back-field that allowed just 6.5 shots per game from opponents and held clean sheets nine times. Peters started every game for the Gulls and pitched in offensively with two assists. Her leadership and communication on-field were crucial in getting the Gulls back to the CCC championship game.
Another key defensive presence was Silva, who is named to her first New England team. The crafty and quick defender was able to lock down one side of the field, while also jumping forward effectively into an offensive rush. Silva grabbed one assist this year, and her pace and field vision made her a fun player to watch and a dangerous one for opposing teams.
Garlock also finds herself honored by NEWISA for the first time in her career. The junior midfielder had a goal and two assists this season and was selected to the CCC All-Conference Second Team.
