Endicott women's soccer unveils 2011 fall schedule
June 15, 2011
The Endicott women’s soccer team has released their schedule for the 2011 season which features competitive TCCC matches and a full slate of difficult non-conference opponents. The Gulls head into the fall in search of their 10th conference title in program history having won four already under seventh year head coach Jodi Kenyon.
2011 Endicott Women’s Soccer Schedule
Season and Home Opener
September 1st marks the season and home opener for the Blue and Green at Endicott Stadium where the women’s soccer team went 9-3 in 2010. The Gulls will be facing off against a familiar foe in Salem State University, who went 6-10-1 last season and missed the MASCAC playoffs for the third straight season. Under Coach Kenyon, Endicott has a 3-1-1 record against the Vikings. In the 2010 season opener, Endicott and Salem State battled to a 1-1 tie through two overtimes.
Plattsburg Tournament
Endicott travels 30 miles short of the Canadian border to Plattsburgh, New York for the SUNY College of Plattsburgh Tournament from September 3rd to September 4th. On day one of the tournament, the Gulls take on Wisconsin-Oshkosh out of the WIAC conference. The Titans, a 9-8-1 team in 2010 that was eliminated in the opening round of their conference tournament, qualified for the NCAA Tournament back in 2006 but since then have not escape the first round of the WIAC Tournament. Endicott’s day two opponent will be determine based on the outcome of the Nazareth College and host Plattsburgh State match. A Nazareth win over Plattsburgh sets up a rematch with the Golden Flyers as the two teams met in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Endicott stunned Nazareth with a game-winning goal with 25 seconds remaining in double overtime to win 1-0 and advance into the second round.
Non-conference Powerhouses
After Endicott returns home from Plattsburgh State, the final five remaining non-conference matches feature some of New England’s premier women’s soccer talent. The combined record of these five teams from the 2010 season was 58-26-12 with two teams reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Endicott travels to Wellesley on September 7th, a team they lost in double overtime last season, and then visit Wheaton College a week later on September 14th. Wheaton went 17-4-3 in 2010 and cruised into the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Eastern Connecticut in penalty kicks. The Gulls host Babson on September 20th and Tufts on October 5th at Endicott Stadium. Babson, who lost to Endicott 1-0 in overtime at home last year, nearly earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament but suffered a 1-0 loss to Springfield College in the NEWMAC Championship match. Tufts’ first half goal held up against Endicott in their 2010 meeting and the Jumbos went on to an 8-2-4 record. The Gulls cap off their non-conference schedule and 2011 regular season with a tilt against Brandeis on the road. The Judges went 15-5-1 last year, beat Castleton State 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and then exited the tournament with a tough 6-0 loss to Williams College.
Cross-town Rivalry
Only four miles separate Gordon College and Endicott College. These two TCCC rivals will meet on the pitch at Endicott Stadium on September 24th for the 11th time under Coach Kenyon’s reign. The Gulls holding a commanding 9-0-1 record over the Scots, however, five of those wins were by only one goal. Endicott has also registered four playoff victories over Gordon, including one win in the conference finals and three in conference semifinal matches. In 2010, Gordon was 10-8 (6-6 TCCC) and took the final playoff spot in the TCCC Tournament, eventually losing to top-seeded and 2011 TCCC Championship winners, Roger Williams University, 2-0 on the road.
Tangle at the Top of the TCCC
Endicott and Roger Williams have finished in the top three of the TCCC standings each of the past six seasons and have met in the conference playoffs in five of those years. From 2005-07, the Gulls went a perfect 6-0 with three regular season wins and three postseason wins, including two TCCC title match victories and a semifinal win. Over the past three seasons, however, the Hawks have exacted some revenge on the Gulls with two TCCC Championship wins in 2008 and 2010. These two teams will meet on October 8th down in Bristol, Rhode Island for their regular season meeting.
