Quick Second-Half Strikes Spring Endicott to Victory
Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. – Colleen Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Vanessa Caruccio (Winthrop, Mass.) scored less than four minutes apart in the second half and Natalie Wyrsch posted her third shutout of the season as the Endicott Gulls defeated nearby rival Gordon 2-0 at Endicott Stadium Saturday night. The Fighting Scots dropped their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match of the year, falling to 2-1 while Endicott improved to 3-0 in conference play.

After a scoreless first half, Caruccio got the scoring started in the 63rd minute with her first goal of the season when she used her head to push the ball past Gordon goalkeeper Kari Christensen (Standish, Maine) and inside of the left post. The assist came from junior Micaela Hogan (Salisbury, Mass.), her second helper of the year.

Pepin had eight shots, five of them on goal, including several rockets held by Christensen, who made eight saves in the game. The Endicott senior captain was able to finish one of her chances in the 67th minute when she fired a shot from the edge of the box that beat Christensen on the ground. It was Pepin's ninth goal in as many games this season.

The Gulls controlled play for much of the game, and in a first half that saw few chances on goal, the Blue and Green may have had the best opportunity. In the fortieth minute, substitute Lexi Dussi (Boxford, Mass.) played a ball to herself over the head of the Gordon defensive line. Dussi tracked it down, but her sliding poke sailed just to the right of the post.

Endicott peppered 19 shots in the second half and finished the game with a 25-2 shot advantage. Wyrsch needed to make just one save to collect the shutout, and improve to 6-3 on the year. Junior forward Caitlin Nedde (Colchester, Vt.) provided the only test for Wyrsch when she nodded on a long free kick early in the second half. Endicott also held an advantage in corner kicks, 7-1.

This game marked the last of the month of September for the Gulls, and they finish the month at 6-3 overall. They play their next match at Salve Regina on October 1st, another conference test that will kick off at 1:00 pm. The Fighting Scots (4-4) will play a non-conference game on Wednesday when they host Colby-Sawyer at 3:30 pm.
