Springfield Downs Women's Lacrosse, 13-8

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Endicott women's lacrosse team fell to Springfield, 13-8, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Stagg Field.

Leah Black (Cheshire, Conn.) and Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.) led the way for the Gulls with two goals apiece, while Abbie Belleville (Salem, Conn.), Emerson Clark (Gloucester, Mass.), Grace McAfee (Marmora, N.J.), and Jaira Paine (Granby, Conn.) all added solo tallies.

In goal, Payton Quirk (Nahant, Mass.), stopped five shots in the defeat.

The hosts opened up a slight 4-3 advantage after the first quarter, but took control of the contest in the second quarter as they outscored the Gulls 5-0 and giving them a 9-3 halftime lead.

Both teams matched scores throghout the second half before the Gulls closed the game on a 3-0 scoring run.

BEYOND THE BOX

  • The Gulls are now 5-4 all-time versus Springfield.
  • Seventh career multi-goal game for Black.
  • Dating back to last season, Clark as scored in seven consecutive games.
  • Kenzie Velsmid (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) led Endicott with four draw controls.

Endicott (1-1) travels to No. 2 Tufts on Wednesday, March 5 at 4 PM. Springfield (3-0) welcomes Trinity (Conn.) on Wednesday, March 5 at 6:30 PM.
