No. 2 Tufts Tops Women’s Lacrosse, 20-6

MEDFORD, Mass. — The Endicott women's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 2 nationally ranked Tufts, 20-6, in a non-conference matchup at Bello Field on Wednesday evening.

Emerson Clark (Gloucester, Mass.) scored twice, while Leah Black (Cheshire, Conn.), Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.), Jaira Paine (Granby, Conn.), and Kenzie Velsmid (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) each netted a tally. 

The Jumbos leaped out to an early 10-0 advantage after the first quarter and carried that momentum for the rest of the matchup. 

Meanwhile, the Gulls fought until the end as they outscored the Jumbos, 4-1 in the final period.  

In goal, Payton Quirk (Nahant, Mass.) was dealt the loss, while the sophomore recorded a career-high 13 saves (1-2 record). 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Velsmaid produced her first goal as a Gull.
  • Clark dished out two dimes in the defeat. 
  • Marin Kalamaras (Redding, Conn.) caused a personal-best three turnovers. 
  • Tufts was ranked #2 in the IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association) preseason poll.

Endicott (1-2) visits the Empire State to take on RIT on Saturday, March 8 at 1:00 PM. No. 2 No. 2 Tufts (3-0) takes on Trinity (Conn.) on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
