Women’s Lacrosse Bests UNE, 19-5

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team defeated the University of New England (UNE), 19-5, on Wednesday evening in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Hempstead Stadium.

Bailey Sheehan (Pomfret, Conn.) led all scorers with four goals and three assists, tying her career-high for tallies and points in the victory.

Leah Black (Cheshire, Conn.) compiled three goals and three assists, while Clare Wendell (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.) also notched hat-tricks. 

Grace McAfee (Marmora, N.J.), Mia Samarjian (Stow, Mass.), Abbie Belleville (Salem, Conn.), Stella Tessier (Cheshire, Conn.), Ava Amara (Southbury, Conn.), and Kendal Kelsey (Queensbury, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with solo tallies.

In goal, Payton Quirk (Nahant, Mass.) made seven saves to improve to 5-3 on the season.

Quirk did not allow a goal until the 4:10 mark of the second quarter, making five straight saves, including two free-position stops during that stretch.

Endicott's defense also fended off three player-down scenarios before UNE broke up the Gulls' 11-0 run to begin the conference matchup.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is 24-6 all-time against UNE (24 straight victories).
  • Black registered a season-high six points.
  • The Gulls were nearly perfect on the clear, going 16-for-18 (.889, second-best percentage this season, min. 15 attempts).

Endicott (5-3, 1-0 CNE) visits Hartford on Saturday, March 29 at 3 PM. UNE (2-6, 0-1 CNE) hosts Western New England this Saturday at 1 PM.
