WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team defeated the University of Hartford, 18-9, on Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Al-Marzzok field at Alumni Stadium.
Bailey Sheehan (Pomfret, Conn.) led the way for the Gulls with five goals and three assists for eight points, while Kendal Kelsey (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.) both added three goals. Smith recorded four assists for seven points in the contest.
Sophia Notine (Arundel, Maine), Mia Samarjian (Stow, Mass.), and Clare Wendell (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) all scored twice. Leah Black (Cheshire, Conn.) rounded out the scoring for the Gulls with one goal but finished with three assists.
In goal, Payton Quirk (Nahant, Mass.) made five saves as her record improves to 6-3 this season.
With the two teams, tied 4-4 at the end of the first quarter, the Gulls used an 8-1 advantage to break the game open. Kesley (x3), Sheehan and Samarjian (x2), and Black all helped Endicott take an 12-4 lead. A Hawks goal with less than a minute to play before halftime made it 12-5 at the break. During the second quarter, Endicott outshot Hartford, 16-2, and the stingy defense/ride forced the hosts to 12 turnovers and just 2-7 in clear attempts.
The Gulls continued its strong play in the third quarter as they outscored Hartford 4-1 thanks to goals from Sheehan (x2), Notine, and Smith and pushed the lead to 16-6 going to the fourth quarter and never looked back.
