DUDLEY, Mass. – The Endicott women's lacrosse team bested Nichols, 21-10, in Conference of New England (CNE action on Wednesday night at Vendetti Field.
Leah Black (Cheshire, Conn.) and Bailey Sheehan (Pomfret, Conn.) powered the Endicott offense with five goals apiece as both recorded an assist for six points in the victory.
Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.) had a hat-trick while Ava Amara (Southbury, Conn.), Mia Samarjian (Stow, Mass.), and Stella Tessier (Cheshire, Conn.) all tallied two goals. Kendal Kelsey (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Jaira Paine (Granby, Conn.) both found the back of the net once.
In goal, Payton Quirk (Nahant, Mass.) saved seven shots in the victory as she picks up her seventh win of the year. Defensively, Amara and Kaitlyn DiLoreto (East Lyme, Conn.) both caused three turnovers.
The Gulls opened the game on a 7-0 run in the first 12:14 of the game thanks to three goals from Black, two from Sheehan, and one apiece from Paine and Tessier. Nichols responded over the next 4:35 of the game with a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to one with 10:24 to play in the second quarter.
Smith gave Endicott a two goal on a free-position shot but the Bison cut the lead to one again with just under four minutes before halftime. Two goals by Black in the final 2:02 of the second quarter gave Endicott a 10-7 lead heading to the break.
A 6-1 advantage in the third quarter blew the game open for Endicott to take a commanding 16-8 lead going to the fourth quarter. The Gulls used a 6-2 advantage in draw controls to gain possession and outshot the hosts 8-4 and 5-1 in shots on goal. Endicott outscored Nichols 5-2 in the fourth to secure the road victory.
