Trio Of Gulls Receive IWLCA All-Region Honors

IWLCA RELEASE

BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott student-athletes Lydia Akins (Edina, Minn.)Matilda Darrah (Dover, N.H.), and Kiana Napolitano (Revere, Mass.) have received Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Region honors. 

Akins was selected to the Pilgrim Region First Team, while Darrah and Napolitano were chosen to the Second Team.

This is the second consecutive selection for both Akins and Darrah. This is the first career selection for Napolitano.

All three Gulls are now eligible for IWLCA All-America honors. The IWLCA will announce its 2023 All-America teams on Wednesday, May 24.


LYDIA AKINS | SR. | G

Akins registered a 9.99 goals against average (GAA), 167 saves (.496), and a 11-8 record in 19 games played (all starts) for the Gulls.

Akins netted Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Year and All-CCC First Team accolades for the second consecutive season.

The senior recorded nine games this season with 10 or more saves. Nationally, she ranks inside the top-25 in both saves and save percentage while ranking first in the conference in both.


MATILDA DARRAH | SR. | D

In 19 games (all starts), Darrah compiled five goals, one assist, six points, 39 ground balls, 25 caused turnovers, and nine draw controls.

She received All-CCC First Team accolades for the second consecutive season while playing a pivotal role in Endicott posting a league-leading 4.86 GAA in conference-only games on the season.


KIANA NAPOLITANO | GR. | A

Playing and starting in all 20 games this season, Napolitano amassed 61 goals and 39 assists for 100 points. 

Those totals were all career highs as she was named to the All-CCC First Team earlier this month for the second consecutive season.

Napolitano's career ranks include: 5th in points (254), 4th in points per game (3.58), 8th in goals (149), 3rd in assists (105), and t-2 in assists per game (1.48).


YEAR IN REVIEW

Endicott went 12-8 overall and 6-1 in league play.

The second-seeded Gulls defeated first-seeded Roger Williams, 17-9 in the CCC Championship game to earn the program's 13th conference title and advance to the NCAA Tournament. Endicott would fall to St. John Fisher, 17-8 in the first round.
