CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The Endicott women's lacrosse team was defeated by No. 22 nationally ranked MIT, 16-8, in a non-conference matchup at Jack Barry Field on Saturday afternoon.
Mia Smith (Portsmouth, N.H.) notched a hat trick, while Emerson Clark (Gloucester, Mass.), Clare Wendell (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Bailey Sheehan (Pomfret, Conn.), Abbie Belleville (Salem, Conn.), and Katie Jones (Franklin, Mass.) all recorded a tally.
The Engineers led wire-to-wire in the contest, racing out to an early 6-0 advantage in the first quarter before another 5-0 run in the second frame sealed the victory.
In goal, Lydia Akins (Edina, Minn) stopped eight shots in the setback (0-2 overall).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- MIT is ranked No. 22 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) preseason poll.
- Smith registered her third career hat trick.
- The Engineers hold the edge in the all-time series, 10-6.
- The Gulls went 16 of 28 in draw controls.
- Belleville netted her first collegiate goal.
