NCAA TOURNAMENT: St. John Fisher Bests Women's Lacrosse, 17-8

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — The Endicott women's lacrosse team lost to St. John Fisher, 17-8, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday at Peter Kohn field.

Kiana Napolitano (Revere, Mass.) led the Gulls with four goals while, Emerson Clark (Gloucester, Mass.) scored twice. 

Leah Black (Cheshire, Conn.) and Gilly Hartt (Old Saybrook, Conn.) both added solo tallies in the defeat. Black also led Endicott with two assists.

In goal, Lydia Akins (Edina, Minn.) made 10 saves for the Gulls.

Trailing 8-2 early in the second quarter, Endicott responded with three goals of their own to cut the deficit to 8-5 with over seven minutes to play before halftime. The Cardinals scored two in the final 90 seconds of the first half to take a 10-5 lead at the break.

St. John Fisher added six in the third quarter as they shut out the Gulls and led 16-5 heading to the fourth quarter. Endicott wouldn't go down without a fight outscoring St. John Fisher 3-1 over the final 15 minutes, eventually falling 17-8.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • First-ever meeting between the two programs.
  • With her four points, Napolitano finishes the season tied for second in points in a single season with 100.
  • Napolitano also finishes with 61 goals this season tying her for seventh in a single season.
  • Akins' 10 saves move the senior up to seventh for saves in a season with 167.

WHAT'S NEXT 

St. John Fisher (12-7) advances to the NCAA Tournament Second Round where they will take on No. 1 Middlebury College on Sunday, May 12 at 1:00 PM. 

Endicott sees its 2024 season come to a close with a 12-8 overall record.
