Gulls stay perfect in TCCC, down Chargers

BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College scored the first 14 goals of the game as the Gulls cruised to an easy 20-3 win over visiting Colby-Sawyer College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Tuesday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. The Blue and Green improve to 10-2 overall this year and remain a perfect 8-0 in the TCCC while the Chargers drop to 3-9 and 2-6 in conference games. \#Kristen Micho\# (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored a game-high four goals in the win.

Endicott’s \#Molly Sowles\# (Cumberland, Maine) got the scoring started as the junior dodged through the middle and connected on a shot to the left side of the goal to give the Gulls an early 1-0 lead. Following a free position goal from \#Valerie Feldman\# (Albany, N.Y.), \#Kristen Micho\# netted her first two scores of the game on a feed from Feldman and a free position goal.

\#Kellie Cunningham\# (Derry, N.H.) and \#Carin Czerniawski\# (Monroe, Conn.) gave Endicott a 6-0 lead before Micho scored two more goals on passes from TCCC Offensive Player of the Week \#Morgan DeShaw\# (Danville, N.H.) and \#Lauren Carelli\#’s (Hollis, N.H.) first assist of the season. The Gulls had built a 14-0 lead before Brittney Murphy’s (Woburn, Mass.) 33rd goal of the season ended the shutout as Murphy made a nifty solo move, dodged through a pair of EC defenders, and buried a shot off her hip.

The Gulls scored the first five goals of the second period to build a 19-1 lead as \#Meaghann Mellen\# (Londonderry, N.H.) tallied a pair of scores in the run. Colby-Sawyer’s Hannah Cullen (Penacook, N.H.) and Elaina Kennedy (Sunderland, Mass.) both added scores in the final minutes of play to leave the final score at 20-3.

Endicott was dominant in many statistical categories as the Gulls doubled up the number of shot attempts by CSC, 32-16. The Blue and Green also held the edge in groundballs, 37-20, as well as draw controls (19-6), and clear attempts as the Gulls went 10-for-12 on clears while the Chargers were only 10-for-19.

Micho scored a game high four goals and added a pair of groundballs while \#Kellie Cunningham\# had three tallies to go along with three groundballs and three draw controls. \#Valerie Feldman\# had a pair of goals and an assist while \#Morgan DeShaw\# had three assists in the win. \#Leah Neff\# (South Berwick, Maine) improves to 10-2 this season as the sophomore made 10 stops on 16 shots faced.

The Chargers were led by a goal apiece from Elaina Kennedy, Brittney Murphy, and Hannah Cullen. Lyndsay French (Ipswich, Mass.) had a team-high four groundballs while French and Cullen tied for the team lead in draw controls with two. Ekta Sampson (Hyde Park, Vt.) suffered the setback for the Chargers while making seven saves.

Endicott steps out of conference play on Thursday afternoon as the Gulls will host \#12 ranked Tufts University in a 4:30 p.m. faceoff. Colby-Sawyer looks to snap a three-game skid when the Chargers host Nichols College on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
