Softball Sweeps UNE, Earns Trip To CCC Championship Series

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team completed a two-game sweep of the University of New England (UNE) defeating the Nor'easters 9-8 in game one, and 13-0 in game two to punch their ticket to the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship series.

GAME ONE: Endicott 9, UNE 8 (9 Innings)

WP - Maria Hanchuk (South Windsor, Conn.) - 2 2/3 IP, 1 H 0 R, 8 SO

LP - Jordan Strum (Somersworth, N.H.) - 8 2/3 IP, 11 H, 9 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 6 SO

With the game tied 8-8 in the bottom of the ninth inning, Keelin Spencer (San Jose, Calif.) crushed a single to left-center field which scored Meghan Connor (St. Albans, Vt.) and gave the Gulls the 9-8 victory.

Spencer finished off what was a back and forth contest that consisted of five lead changes and four ties.

After UNE took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, the Gulls responded with a four-run bottom half of the inning which was highlighted by a Lauren Misiaszek (Londonderry, N.H.) homerun.

The Nor'easters then fought back with five unanswered runs in the fourth and fifth inning before Endicott scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

However, UNE would not go easily as they forced extra innings through a two-run top of the seventh before Spencer ultimately ended game one in the ninth.

GAME TWO: Endicott 13, UNE 0 (5 Innings)

WP - Hanchuk - 5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 SO

LP - Kate Wilmot (Walpole, Mass.) 0.1 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB

The Gulls continued the momentum they gained at the end of game one right into game two scoring five runs in the first and five in the second.

Endicott saw Misiaszek hit a three-run home run in the first inning, while Adrianna Favreau (Tewksbury, Mass.) tattooed a solo shot, and Spencer ripped a three-run homer in the second inning.

Meanwhile, Hanchuk was impressive as she's been all season striking out seven in just five innings of work and only allowing one hit.
