Bresnahan, Cogliano Power Gulls Past Salem State, 6-1

SALEM, Mass. – Senior Morgan Bresnahan (South Burlington, Vt.) and freshman Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) both scored a pair of goals to lead the Endicott field hockey team to a 6-1 victory over Salem St. University on Tuesday evening.

Cogliano scored one goal in each half, while Bresnahan buried markers at 54:29 and 68:32, respectively, in the victory. Freshman Molly McInerney (Reading, Mass.) also deposited her first collegiate goal into the back of the cage at the 30:52 mark and sophomore Samantha Crowley (Leicester, Mass.) rounded out the scoring with her first tally of the season at 65:08.

Senior goalkeeper Rose Bradley (Pottstown, Pa.), who made her second straight start for the Gulls tonight, stopped one shot to collect her first win of the 2015 campaign.

Endicott blanked Salem St., 2-0, in the first half before locking up the win with four goals in the second stanza.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Sophomore Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass. ), freshman Meghan Stanton (Newburyport, Mass. ), and senior Taylor Przybylski (South Windsor, Conn.) all dished out their first career assist in the win.
  • Endicott's six goals tonight versus Salem St. fell one shy of breaking inside the top-10 list all-time for a single-game.
  • The Gulls last game with six goals came against Nichols on October 9, 2014, a 6-1 victory at home.
  • Endicott outshot Salem St., 22-8, compiling 11 shots apiece in each half.

FOR THE FOES

  • Senior Angela Montano (Saugus, Mass.) broke up a string of three straight goals by Endicott with her first strike of the season at 47:38.
  • Junior goalkeeper Carolyn Woodin (Arlington, Mass.) recorded a season-high 12 saves in the loss.

NOTES

  • Endicott improves to 10-3 in the all-time series versus Salem St.
  • The Gulls have won the last three games against the Vikings and started off the series with six consecutive wins.
  • Endicott has outscored Salem St. 39-15 (includes five shutouts).

Endicott (2-1) hosts UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, September 10 in non-conference action at 7 p.m. Salem St. (1-1) travels to Salve Regina University this Thursday for a 6 p.m. contest.
