Cogliano's Golden Goal Carries Gulls In 1-0 OT Road Win Over Gordon

Cogliano's Golden Goal Carries Gulls In 1-0 OT Road Win Over Gordon

WENHAM, Mass.—Freshman forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) ended a scoreless deadlock six minutes into the first overtime period to spoil Gordon's Homecoming game in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

With the win, the Gulls earned their third victory in a row and moved to 7-5 overall and sit atop the CCC at 5-1, while Gordon fell to 2-8, 1-4 CCC on the season.

Endicott outshot the hosts 10-0 in regulation and had an 8-1 advantage in penalty corners against the rival Fighting Scots.

Endicott took advantage of the space offered by 7-vs-7 play during the overtime period. They fended off a Gordon attack and countered with a short-handed fast break the other way.

Cogliano was sprung free in the midfield and she was able to beat junior goalkeeper Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) on the break to score the golden goal in the 76th minute.

The Gulls finished with 12 shots and 10 on goal. Gordon earned one shot in the overtime period, which went just a few feet wide of the frame.
