FH POSTGAME INTERVIEW WITH HEAD COACH JODI CIPOLLA
BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team won its season opener in 4-2 fashion over Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday night at North Field.
The Gulls struck first when freshman forward Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) found the back of the cage for her first career goal (unassisted) at the five minute mark of the contest.
The Chargers answered back immediately in the second stanza with a goal from senior forward Brittany Grandbois (East Barre, Vt.) at the 40:48 mark.
Sophomore forward Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) responded for Endicott in the 59th minute with a strike on a feed by senior midfielder Ashleigh Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) to push the advantage back to a pair of goals.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Today's match saw Endicott out-shoot Colby-Sawyer, 36-6, with Allen leading the field with 14 shot attempts.
- Cogliano is the first Endicott student-athlete to score two goals against Colby-Sawyer since Hannah Thornberg did so in an 8-1 win over the Chargers on September 8, 2012.
- Cogliano potted her pair of markers today on five shot attempts.
- Endicott goalkeeper Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) made three saves to improve to 13-6 in her career.
- Allen dished out two assists in the contest giving her three 2-assist games in her career.
- The Gulls earned 19 penalty corners to Colby-Sawyer's six.
FOR THE FOES
- Grandbois scored her first goal of the season, and fourth of her career, in the 40th minute.
- Senior goalkeeper Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.) notched 14 saves between the pipes.
- Mullen had two shots and one goal (61st minute).
- Sophomore Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.) made her first defensive save of her career at the 42:51 mark of the game to keep the score at 2-1, in favor of Endicott, at the time.
NOTES
- Endicott is now 5-0 all-time (3-0 at home) against Colby-Sawyer.
