Gulls Held Scoreless In 1-0 Road Loss to Roger Williams University

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Endicott field hockey team fell 1-0 at the hands of the Roger Williams University Hawks on the road in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at Bayside Field.

With the loss, the Gulls slide to 7-9 overall, 5-4 in the CCC, while RWU moved to 7-9 overall and 4-5 in the CCC.

Possession alternated early on between both teams, as neither side was able to get in a rhythm offensively. Each team had only one shot taken over the first 20 minutes of play.

Endicott outshot the Hawks 17-9 in the game, but it was Roger Williams who was able to slip one past senior goalkeeper Rose Bradley (Pottstown, Pa.) and the Hawks held on to win their second straight game for the second time this season.

Junior forward Katherine Mahoney (West Suffield, Conn.) broke open a scoreless game in the 39th minute on a cross splitting a pair of defenders from junior forward Juliana Miccile (Upton, Mass.).

Endicott almost got the equalizer in the 59th minute when freshman forward  Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) belted a chest-high shot on goal blocked by freshman goalkeeper Mya Lunn (Marion, Mass.).

Endicott made one final push in the final two minutes of the game, holding possession on their offensive end over the stretch. The Gulls' freshman midfielder Meghan Stanton (Newburyport, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Emily Hirtle (Rowley, Mass.) each put up a shot in the final minute that sailed just wide. The Gulls had one last attempt with a penalty corner with no time remaining, but were unable to get a shot off.
