Leary Collects CCC Weekly Defensive Award

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Endicott sophomore Meghan Leary (Hampton Falls, N.H.) has been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Week, announced on Monday by CCC Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye.

Leary led the Endicott field hockey team to a 2-0 week, collecting conference wins against Western New England and Gordon.

This marks the sixth week that Endicott field hockey has had one or more players receive CCC weekly awards.

The sophomore had an impressive week in the back-field for the Gulls, who only allowed one goal in two games. The Gulls began the week with a 3-1 victory at Western New England and then shut out Gordon 3-0 on Saturday, improving their conference record to 6-0.

Leary was critical in cutting out passes in midfield, stepping up to make sure the ball stayed in the Endicott attacking zone and limiting scoring chances for the Gull's opponents.

The Gulls have posted two shutouts this season and have outscored their opponents 48-20.

The Blue and Green are 10-3 this year and have a perfect 6-0 record in the conference. Endicott will travel to Biddeford, Maine on Wednesday for a 6:00 pm rematch with the University of New England Nor'easters.
