MILTON, Mass. — No. 10/12 nationally ranked Endicott defeated Curry, 49-14, in its Conference of New England finale on Saturday afternoon at Walter M. Katz Field.
Endicott dominated in the trenches early and never looked back.
Offensively, Clayton Marengi (Lynnfield, Mass.), Bryan Metayer (Norwood, Mass.), and Yavier Cosme-Diaz (Stratford, Conn.) all found paydirt by way of the strong rushing attack.
Highlighting the Gulls' scoring efforts were Cosme-Diaz (15-yard, 7-0 and six-yard, 28-7), Marengi (five-yard, 14-0 and one-yard, 21-7), Metayer (one-yard, 35-7 and eight-yard, 42-7).
On the third offensive play of the matchup, Joe Tirrell (Franklin, Mass.) recorded an interception to give the Endicott offense prime field position. Two plays later, Cosme-Diaz found the end zone to give the Gulls a quick 7-0 lead with 13:21 remaining in the opening quarter.
Defensively, the Gulls held the Colonels to its second-worst passing yards this season (97).
Four student-athletes recorded a tackle for a loss, highlighted by Matthew Whelan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) with 2.5 takedowns for a loss of three yards.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott's offense was seven-of-10 on third down (70%), while Curry was seven-of-15 (43%).
- Following today's victory, Endicott has won the last seven meetings against Curry dating back to 9/29/18.
- Shea Lynch (Peabody, Mass.) tossed a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Ward (Coventry, R.I.) to extend the Gulls lead to 49-7 late in the third quarter.
- Zachariah Twardosky (Merrimack, N.H.), Caleb Luz (Hudson, Mass.), and Corey Monteiro (East Providence, R.I.) all broke up a pass in the contest.
- Mike Bartley (North Caldwell, N.J.) went a perfect seven-for-seven on extra points.
- The Gulls have created a turnover in each of the last four games.
WHAT'S NEXT
No. 10/12 Endicott (9-1, 5-0 CNE) eyes the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Sunday, November 17 at 5 PM on NCAA.com. Curry finished the season with a 4-6 overall record and 2-3 in CNE play.
