BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott football student-athletes Joe Tirrell (Franklin, Mass.) and Ryan Smith (Glastonbury, Conn.) have received Conference of New England (CNE) weekly awards, as announced by the league office today.
Tirrell was named the CNE Defensive Player of the Week, while Smith captured CNE Special Teams Player of the Week honors, respectively.
Tirrell led No. 15/16 Endicott to a 13-7 victory over No. 24/24 Ithaca with a game-high 10 tackles (6 solo, 4 assisted, 1 sack, and 2 tackles for loss). His 10 tackles set a new career-high and helped force four punts with three tackles and one pass breakup on third down plays.
Meanwhile, Smith aided the No. 15/16 Gulls over No. 24/24 Ithaca by pinning two punts inside the 20-yard line (6 punts total, 220 yards, 36.7 average, 47 long, and 4 fair catches). On kickoffs notched 185 yards with a 61.7 average while going 1-for-2 in extra point attempts.
This is Tirrell's first CNE Defensive Player of the Week honor, while this is Smith's seventh career conference Special Teams Player of the Week honor (9/27/21, 10/4/2021, 11/1/2021, 10/24/22, 10/30/23, 9/9/24).
