BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott football team defeated Husson, 20-0, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener for both programs on Saturday afternoon at Hempstead Stadium, as part of Homecoming and Family Weekend.
All three scores came on the ground as Tyler Bridge (Wells, Maine) and Clayton Marengi (Lynnfield, Mass.) each found paydirt in the win for the Gulls.
Bridge punched home TDs of 33-yards and 14-yards in the first (11:31, 6-0) and fourth (2:20, 20-0) quarters, while Marengi scampered in for a 3-yard score in the third (11:40, 13-0).
Defensively, the Gulls pitched their third shutout of the season behind three forced fumbles (two recoveries), a pair of interceptions, two sacks, five tackles for a loss, seven pass breakups, and three quarterback hurries.
Endicott stalled four drives inside its own 30-yard-line, three of which came on downs.
Individually, Yavier Cosme-Diaz (Stratford, Conn.) guided the rushing attack via a career-high 118 yards on 16 attempts (7.4 average). Bridge also compiled 104 yards on 15 attempts (6.9 average).
Tyler Davis (Bethel, Conn.) led the Gulls' defensive unit with seven tackles (six solo), one forced fumble, and one interception.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Endicott is 3-1 all-time against Husson.
- The Gulls have now tied the program record for most shutouts in a season (3, 2005).
- Seven student-athletes had five or more tackles in the win, including Davis.
- Hector Johnson (Worcester, Mass.) stymied a potential scoring opportunity for the Eagles with his first career forced fumble when he punched the ball out of the hands of Husson's running back on Endicott's 24-yard line with 10:46 to play in the fourth (13-0 lead at the time).
- Joseph Pagett (Newtown, Conn.) recovered both fumbles for the Gulls, which tied the program record.
- Alfino Davis (Cranston, R.I.) secured his second career interception with a toe-tap sideline catch to thwart a late first half drive (0:45) at Endicott's 32-yard-line.

Endicott (5-0, 1-0 CCC) hosts Nichols on Saturday, October 8 at 12 PM. Husson (1-4, 0-1 CCC) welcomes the University of New England next Saturday at 1 PM.
