Northrup among NEIBA All-New England First Team winners

Babson Park, Mass. –
The New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) announced the 2011 Division III All-New England Teams today which featured 52 student-athletes from across the region.

Endicott freshman Jake Northrup (Boxborough, Mass.), who split time between first base and shortstop this season, was recognized at the shortstop position as a First Team NEIBA All-New England selection after helping the Gulls achieve a program-best 32 wins while breaking several individual, single season records.

Northrup eclipsed the single season hits, runs batted in, batting average, total bases and doubles records with a stellar 2011 rookie campaign. The freshman batted .461 with 71 hits in 154 official at bats. Twenty-three of his hits went for extra bases, including 16 doubles, five homeruns and three triples for a total of 106 total bases. He drove in 54 base runners, crossed the plate 34 times, walked 15 times and was even 5-of-8 on stolen base attempts.

Northrup finished eighth in NCAA Division III with his .461 batting average, 10th in hits (71) and 14th in sacrifice flies (6).

Twice this season Northrup had hitting streaks of at least 10 games, including an 11-game streak to end the season. He had 23 multi-hit games and 15 games with at least two RBI.

Northrup and the Gulls earned a share of the ECAC DIII New England Championship with Anna Maria this year after posting a 32-15 overall record, 15-7 in conference play. Endicott earned the \#1 seed in the tournament and defeated Becker and Suffolk en route to the title game. Weather forced the ECAC Championship to be cancelled, allowing co-champions to be named.
