Freshman Gold signed by Martha's Vineyard Sharks

Vineyard Haven, Mass. – The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks head coach Ted Currle announced Wednesday that the Futures Collegiate Baseball League team has signed center fielder Tad Gold, a local baseball player from the Vineyard, for the inaugural 2011 season.

“It’s a great day for the Sharks with the signing of a local kid,” remarked Sharks’ General Manager Jerry Murphy. “We added quite a bit of speed to our lineup along with a player who has a reputation as a solid defensive center fielder.”  Tad excels in two sports for Endicott College, the other being hockey. “From all accounts, Tad is one of the best baseball players to come through Martha's Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) in recent years. He establishes the benchmark for younger players on the Vineyard to strive for,” stated Murphy.

Tad was highly recommended by Bryan Haley, Endicott’s head baseball coach. Haley stated that Tad as a freshman “will start in centerfield and play every day. He will likely lead off due of his exceptional speed and ability to get on base, however I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in the 3 or 4 hole for us.  He has great hands and tremendous power." Tad played a year at Bridgton Academy after graduating from MVRHS.
