Bristol, R.I. – Endicott College advanced to the semifinal round of The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament with a 6-1 win over the Roger Williams University Baseball team Thursday afternoon.

Both teams tried to get the game in yesterday, as it was originally scheduled. Yet the weather would not cooperate, with rain pouring down during the bottom of the second inning with the Hawks leading 4-1.

As a result, the contest would have to be postponed until today, where conditions fared better, with intermittent moments of drizzling early on before giving way to partly cloudy skies for the remainder of the game.

The Gulls started off the game with a two-out RBI single in the top of the first by TCCC Rookie of the Year Jake Northrup (Boxborough, Mass.), scoring Eric Lemke (Southington, Conn.). Endicott would score two more in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead. Lemke brought Danny Mello (Peabody, Mass.) in from third with a productive groundout to short, followed by another RBI single by Northrup to plate Chris Dominguez (Braintree, Mass.).

In the fourth, the Gulls continued to tack runs on the board, putting up two more in the frame. Mike Griffin (Arlington, Mass.) led off the inning with an infield hit, stole second, and then scored on an RBI single by Russo. Russo would later score on another RBI single by Robbie Goldstick (Deerfield, Ill.) to make it a 5-0 Endicott advantage.

Roger Williams mounted its first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, beginning with a leadoff base hit by Zach Porter (Middleboro, Mass.). Eric Bransfield (Lynn, Mass.) later knocked in Porter from second with a two-out single to left. Yet that would be all the runs that the Hawks would muster, as another RBI hit for Endicott in the seventh led to the five-run win for the Gulls.

Mike Nich (Orange, Conn.) went the distance for Endicott, picking up the win while giving up a run on six hits with five strikeouts. Northrup finished the game 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Mello and Griffin each contributed two hits and a run scored, while Lemke added an RBI and two runs scored.

Josh Orosz (Fairfield, Conn.) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing five runs on eight hits and a K before leaving the game due to arm discomfort. Eric Diffily (North Reading, Mass.) pitched 3.2 innings of relief, giving up a run with four strikeouts. Bryan Motta (Dighton, Mass.) and Chris Comeau (Southbury, Conn.) pitched the final 2.1 innings without allowing a run. Mike Pascarella (Milford, Conn.) was 2-for-4 in the game, while Chris Ford (Plainville, Mass.) and TJ Oliver (Manchester, Vt.) were each 1-for-3.

Roger Williams (22-20) hosts Anna Maria College tomorrow, who eliminated Curry College today with a 12-3 win. Depending on that outcome, Endicott (29-13) will either host Anna Maria on Saturday or return to Bristol to take on Roger Williams on Saturday.
