Beverly, Mass. –
Sophomore Brendan Pittsley (Plympton, Mass.) fired a complete game three-hitter to power the Endicott baseball team to a 5-0 victory over visiting Anna Maria in the opening game of the The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Tournament for both teams. The righty matched a career high with seven strikeouts in the shutout win to improve to 5-2 on the season.

No. 3 Endicott (28-13) returns to action tomorrow when it travels to No. 2 Roger Williams, who defeated visiting Curry 9-4.

No. 6 Anna Maria (22-18) is still alive in the double-elimination tournament and will look to bounce back tomorrow when it takes on No. 7 Curry for a win-or-go-home matchup at 3:00 pm.

The Gulls opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning after sophomore Eric Lemke (Southington, Conn.) singled through the left side to score junior Danny Mello (Peabody, Mass.) from third. The run would be more than enough for Pittsley, who ran his scoreless streak to 14.1 innings.

Mike Griffin (Arlington, Mass.) led off the bottom of the second with a double to deep center before Mike Russo (Natick, Mass.) moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt. Freshman Tad Gold (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) followed with a ground out to shortstop that was enough to plate Griffin from third and double the advantage.

Pittsley remained dialed in on the mound, allowing just two base runners over the next four innings before a three-run sixth helped the Blue and Green blow the game open.

Endicott benefitted from a pair of Anna Maria fielding errors to score three runs on three hits in the sixth and build a 5-0 lead. Gold’s second RBI of the game scored Russo from second and capped the day’s scoring.

Pittsley set the final nine batters down in order and did not allow the ball to leave the infield until a game-ending fly to Colin Sitarz (West Hartford, Conn.) in right field.  Sitarz finished the day 3-for-4 at the dish with a run scored.

Griffin added a pair of hits and two runs while Gold led the way with a two RBIs in the win.

The AMCATS’ Jim McNamara (Worcester, Mass.) went 7.1 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on 13 hits to drop to 4-5 on the year.
