Baseball wins big, then falls hard to Gordon in TCCC doubleheader split
Beverly, Mass. – The Endicott and Gordon baseball teams split a pair of TCCC games at Endicott’s North Field on Saturday afternoon, with the Gulls (8-6, 1-1 TCCC) winning big 16-0 in game one and the Fighting Scots (2-11, 1-5 TCCC) pulling off a seventh-inning victory with a two-run go-ahead blast.

Game One – Endicott 16, Gordon 0

The Gulls scored seven runs in the third inning and six runs in the sixth inning as part of a 16-run outburst in game one of the doubleheader. Sophomore outfielder Victor Resto (Framingham, Mass.) led Endicott with five RBIs in the game, three of which came on a deep homerun to left centerfield in the sixth inning. Resto added two more RBI on sacrifice flies.

Equally as impressive on the mound was junior hurler Benjamin Petrides (Belchertown, Mass.) who pitched six innings of two-hit ball with two strikeouts against the Scots. Petrides improved to 3-0 on the season with the win. Freshman Connor McLaughlin (Clinton, Mass.) went the final inning, striking out two batters in the process.

First baseman Jake Northrup (Boxborough, Mass.), second baseman Eric Lemke (Southington, Conn.) and outfielder Dana Duquette (Boxborough, Mass.) were the other Endicott players to have multiple RBIs in the game. Northrup had a RBI single in the first inning and a two-RBI single in the third inning. Lemke singled in a run in the third before knocking in a runner from first base on a double to left center in the fourth. Duquette, in a pinch-hit role, drove in two runners with a single to left center in the sixth.

Danny Mello (Peabody, Mass.) scored three runs in the game while Tad Gold (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.) had a team-high three hits with two runs scored and a RBI.

Kris Camelio (Lexington, Mass.) and Ethan Davidson (Oxford, Maine) were the only Gordon batters to record hits in this game.

Game Two – Endicott 2, Gordon 4 (5 inn.)

Gordon responded in a big way in game two against the Gulls, by coming back to tie the game in the sixth at 2-2 before using a two-run homerun in the top of the seventh by Kris Camelio to earn their first TCCC victory of the season.

The Scots had gotten on the board first in the top of the first after Ethan Davidson walked, then advanced to second on a passed ball. Camelio cracked a double to deep left centerfield to drive in the run as Gordon went up 1-0 in the game.

Endicott evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the second when Jake Northrup singled to reach base then advanced to third on two consecutive passed balls to come within 90 feet of home plate. A wild pitch by Gordon pitcher Stephen Myhren (Vernon, N.J.) plated Northrup to tie the game.

The Gulls and Scots went scoreless the next two innings. Endicott claimed their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth when with two outs, senior shortstop Chris Dominguez went deep off Myhren off the rocks to left centerfield for his first homerun of the season.

With the Gulls up 2-1 in the sixth inning, Gordon performed their own two-out magic. A walk and an error put runners on first and second before a pinch-hit RBI single by sophomore Dillon Coleman (Cromwell, Mass.) brought home Geoff Brown (East Moriches, N.Y.) to make it 2-2, setting up Camelio for the game-winning two-run homerun in the top of the seventh.

Gordon saw their pitcher, Stephen Myhren, go the distance giving up just one earned run on three hits and four walks while striking out five. Myhren improved to 1-1 on the season following the complete game win.

Jake Northrup took the loss for the Gulls, but starter Steven Carter (Brunswick, Maine) pitched well going 5 2/3 innings with three strikeouts. The freshman gave up only one earned run on four hits and two walks in the outing.

Endicott returns to the diamond on Sunday, March 27th at 12:00 pm for a doubleheader against TCCC rival Western New England College. Gordon plays host to Roger Williams on Wednesday, March 30th for two games starting at 2:00 pm.
