Baseball splits with Amherst on final day at RussMatt Invitational
Winter Haven, Fla. – On the final day of their spring trip to central Florida for the RussMatt Baseball Invitational, the Endicott baseball team split their doubleheader with NESCAC opponent Amherst College on Friday.

Game One – Endicott 7, Amherst 3

Junior Mike Nich (Orange, Conn.) pitched a complete game, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts en route to earning his second victory on the mound this season.

Second baseman Eric Lemke (Southington, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI double in the sixth inning to lead the offense. Lemke was also one of seven different Gulls to swipe a bag in the game with Danny Mello (Peabody, Mass.) and Colin Sitarz (West Hartford, Conn.) stealing two each.

Sitarz also had an RBI and a run scored in the game while Mello walked twice and scored twice.
Catcher Robbie Goldstick (Deerfield, Ill.) impressed at the plate as well, recording two hits in three trips to the dish with two RBIs.

Game Two – Endicott 0, Amherst 8

The Gulls gave up seven runs in the first two innings of the game, creating a large deficit which they could not overcome despite strong relief pitching over the final five innings.

Tyler Hitchcock (Abington, Mass.), Connor McLaughlin (Clinton, Mass.) and Brian Millea (Wakefield, Mass.) combined to pitch 5 1/3 innings of solid relief, limiting the Lord Jeffs to just two hits and one run during that span. Hitchcock went for 4 1/3 innings two strikeouts in a stellar long relief outing.

Endicott managed just five hits offensively off Amherst pitching. Danny Mello, Colin Sitarz, Chris Dominguez (Braintree, Mass.), Jake Northrup (Boxborough, Mass.), and Dana Duquette (Boxborough, Mass.) each recorded hits in the loss.

The Blue and Green, now 6-4 on the season, will return to Beverly for a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 23rd at 3:00 pm against Salem State University.
