BEVERLY, Mass.- Following her stellar freshman campaign, Endicott freshman Mackenzie Guerre (Carlsbad, Calif.) was named to the New England Women's Volleyball Association (NEWVA) All-Rookie Team. Guerre was one of seven freshman named to the regional squad as voted on by the coaches.
The California native was able to enjoy a great deal of success during her first year playing collegiately as she led the Gulls in blocks and hitting percentage while finishing second on the team in kills. Guerre was also named CCC Rookie of the Year and All-CCC First Team for the 2012 season.
As a first year middle, Guerre was able to put forth her best performances in the biggest moments. During the UMass Boston Invitational in mid-October, Mackenzie hit .382 on her way to notching 16 kills on just 34 attempts in a four set upset victory over Tufts. She also picked up five total blocks after putting back one solo and four assist blocks. That same day in a five set loss to NCAA New England Regional champion UMass Boston, Guerre put back two solo blocks and also tallied 14 kills on 37 attempts and hit .270.
The very next day, Endicott took on two nationally ranked teams in Southwestern (Tex.) and Christopher Newport. In the match against Southwestern, which was ranked #23 at the time, Mackenzie put up nine kills on 21 attempts as she hit .286 to go along with two blocks, one solo and one assist.
The final match of the tournament came against Christopher Newport, a team that is currently one of the last four teams remaining in the NCAA DIII Women's Volleyball Tournament and was ranked #4 in the nation at the time. Against CNU, Guerre recorded her second highest hitting percentage of the season by hitting at a .450 clip. The freshman was able to record 10 kills on 20 attempts. For the tournament, Guerre hit for a .339 clip while reaching double digits in kills in three of the four matches.
The Gulls also traveled to Chicago and took on Elmhurst, a team that also finds itself as one of the four teams left in the NCAA tournament at the time of this release. Elmhurst, which was ranked #9 at the time the two squads met. Against the Blue Jays, Guerre posted a .364 hitting percentage after picking up four kills on 11 error-free attempts.
For the season, Guerre posted a .277 hitting percentage while averaging 2.43 kills per set. She finished with 280 kills and 72 blocks. Guerre was the only member of the team to receive NEWVA honors in 2012. Joining her on the All-Rookie team were Caroline Martin of Conn. College, Christy Jewett of Bowdoin, Mary Donahue from Babson, Lizzie Ahern of Amherst and Ada Tayler from MIT.
