Day 2 Recap of Endicott Invitational

BEVERLY, MA-  Host team Endicott College continued to battle with the top teams but also continued to come up just short in the end.  The Gulls lost to Bowdoin 3-1 and to Williams 3-2 on the final day of the Endicott Invitational.

Endicott played Bowdoin in their first match of the day and lost by set scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-14, 25-15.  The Gulls were led once again up front by Callie Dolan who finished with nine kills and Ashley Norley finished with an impressive 33 digs in the four set loss.  Bowdoin was led by Melissa Haskell who notched a match high 18 kills as Sophia Cornew finished with 46 assists and Taylor Vail had 25 digs.

Endicott then went on to face Williams in their final match of the tournament and came up just short.  The Ephs held off the Gulls by scores of 18-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19 and 15-8.  Dolan again led the Gulls with 14 kills, Alleigh VandeMerkt recorded 19 assists and Norley anchored the defense with 26 digs.  Williams were led by Raea Rasmussen who nailed 14 kills with only two errors for a .364 clip.  Setter Ryan Farley was impressive with 45 assists and libero Emily O'Day picked up 20 digs.

In the 10 a.m. matches, Middlebury was able to hold off Plymouth State in four (25-21, 25-8, 22-25, 25-14) and UMass Boston squeaked out a victory 3-2 over Gallaudet (25-18, 23-25, 20-25, 25-19, 15-12).  Against Middlebury, Casey Stoodley led the Panthers with 19 kills and 13 digs, Kristen Perrotta picked up 30 assists and Cassie Pelton chipped in 11 digs.  UMass Boston was led offensively by Shannon Thompson with 16 kills as Emma Rocha pitched in with 23 assists.  Corrine Porter led the defensive effort with 22 digs.  Gallaudet was led by Kali Frowickwith 21 kills, Sarah Tubert with 45 assists and Kate Fetzer with 23 digs.

The other match at 12:00 p.m. featured Williams and Susquehanna.  Williams won in 4, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20 and 25-19.  Williams was led by Emily Doll with 14 kills, Ryan Farley with 36 assists and Emily O'Day with 15 digs.  Susquehanna was led at the net by Emily Carson with 17 kills, Julia Caruso with 15 assists and Morgan Whiteman with 7 digs.

In the 2 p.m. matches, Middlebury knocked off Susquehanna 26-24, 25-18 and 25-20.  Gallaudet was able to hold off the Panthers of Plymouth State 25-22, 25-27, 25-18 and 26-24.  Against Middlebury, Susquehanna was led by Emily Carson with six kills, Julia Caruso with eight assists and Dana Kreutzer with nine digs.  Against Gallaudet, Plymouth was led by Casey Stoodley 18 kills, Kristen Perrotta with 35 assists and Stoodley with 17 digs.  

In the final match on court two, Bowdoin was able to knock off UMass Boston 3-1, 25-16 , 20-25 , 25-16 , 25-19.  The Polar Bears were led by Hillary Cederna who knocked down 18 kills and hit at a .417 clip.  Setter Sophia Cornew continued her solid play with 45 assists and Taylor Vail was a rock on defense with 22 digs.  The Beacons of UMB were led by Amber Clemons who finished with a team-high 10 kills.  Emma Rocha finished with 24 assists and Corrine Porter finished with 18 digs.

Endicott is now off until Wednesday when they will look to get back on the winning track as they play host to Brandeis at 7 p.m.
