Endicott Defeats Simmons in Four

BEVERLY, MASS.- Endicott defeated Simmons College 3-1 behind an offensive outburst from freshmen Mackenzie Guerre (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Lexi Watts (San Diego, Calif.).  The duo combined to record 17 kills and six assist blocks.

Guerre was able to record 10 kills on 26 attempts with only two errors for a .308 average.  Watts chipped in with a seven kill effort on 17 swings with only one error, good enough for a .353 average.  Each player also record three assist blocks.

Freshman setter Alleigh VandeMerkt (Riverside, Ill.) continued to run an efficient offense with 35 assists in the four set match.  Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) was again a defensive force as she picked up 18 digs and had a .963 reception percentage.  Senior outside Falyn Torelli (Pelham, N.Y.) provided much needed consistent offense from the left side as she recorded nine kills on 25 swings.  Torelli was also a weapon while serving as she recorded nine service aces.  The nine aces ties her for sixth all-time in a single match.  Callie Dolan (Westford, Mass.) and Hannah Dahlgren (Queensbury, N.Y.) each pitched in with eight kills and four assist blocks.  Dolan also added a solo block against a setter dump.

Simmons was led offensively by freshman Raeann Nesta (Niantic, Conn.).  Nesta was impressive as she tallied a match high 12 kills on 25 attempts with four errors.  Setter Rachel Dufault (Westport, Mass.) recorded 26 assists as she ran an effective offense.  Dufault, Nicole Alberghini (Northborough, Mass.) and Caroline Boyd (Wilbraham, Mass.) each recorded six kills in the match.  Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) led the defense with 14 digs.

Endicott is now off until they face Colby at 4 p.m.  This match has an interesting rivalry aspect to it as Endicott head coach Tim Byram and Colby head coach Candice Parent were college friends at UMaine Farmington.  Endicott is 4-1 all-time against Colby.

Simmons is now slated to face Smith at 4 p.m.
