SPRINGFIELD, Mass.- Four members of the Endicott women's volleyball team were recipients of All-Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) awards as announced by the office of Commissioner Gregg M. Kaye. The awards included an honorable mention, a second team and two first team honors that were highlighted by two major individual awards. Senior libero Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) was named as the CCC Libero of the Year and freshman standout Mackenzie Guerre (Carlsbad, Calif.) was named as the CCC Rookie of the Year.
Norley has been named as the CCC Libero of the Year and as the First Team Libero after a spectacular season that has put her in second place overall in the Endicott history books for digs in a career. Norley was first in the CCC in total digs with 607 as she averaged 5.37 digs per set. Norley was named as a CCC Honorable Mention Libero last season. The senior currently has 2,226 digs in her career and is 90 behind the career leader as she readies for the playoffs.
Endicott's other First Team representative and second major award winner is freshman middle Mackenzie Guerre. Guerre has had a massive impact on the success of the Gulls and has been named as the Conference Rookie of the Year. The middle leads Endicott in hitting percentage and total blocks and is second on the team in kills and kills per set. Guerre is hitting .277 on the season after notching 264 kills on 664 attempts and is averaging 2.38 kills per set. The freshman also leads the Gulls with 68 total blocks after registering a team high 18 solos and 50 assist blocks. Guerre finished the regular season with the third highest hitting percentage in conference play after posting a .325 average against CCC opponents.
Junior Callie Dolan (Westford, Mass.) was named to the CCC All-Conference team for the first time in her career as she received Second Team honors. After making the switch from middle blocker to outside hitter, Dolan has become one of Endicott's top offensive performers as she led Endicott in kills with 302 which averaged 2.72 a set. The junior averaged 2.76 kills per set in conference play after she totaled 80 kills in CCC action on the season.
Freshman Alleigh VandeMerkt (Riverside, Ill.) received CCC Honors as she was named All-CCC Honorable Mention. VandeMerkt has had an impressive freshman campaign that has resulted in being named CCC Rookie of the Week three times throughout the course of the 2012 season. The setter has accumulated 871 assists to this point on the season as she averaged 7.51 assists per set overall. VandeMerkt's performance was even more impressive as she averaged 9.33 assists per set and tallied 280 assists in CCC play. Defense was also a strong suit for the setter as she averaged 1.63 digs per set in conference play which was second on the team. She also totaled the second highest dig total on the season for the Gulls as she picked up 209.
The Gulls will take these accolades in stride as the team is readying for their match against the winner of Salve and Wentworth on Thursday at 7 p.m.
