BEVERLY, Mass.- Endicott was able to make it a clean sweep of the North Shore as the Gulls took down the Vikings of Salem State 3-0. Endicott was able to use a balanced attack to defeat Salem as the team never trailed once reaching double digits. Set scores were 25-15, 25-14 and 25-6.
Lexi Watts (San Diego, Calif.) led the Endicott offense with nine kills on 15 attempts and only two errors. The freshman opposite was able to post a .467 hitting percentage in the night cap. Callie Dolan (Westford, Mass.) and Hannah Dahlgren (Queensbury, N.Y.) had identical hitting lines as both had five kills and one error on 10 attempts. Dahlgren was also impressive at the net as she recorded two solo blocks. Alleigh VandeMerkt (Riverside, Ill.) oversaw an offense that hit .250 on the night by contributing 21 assist as senior libero Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) picked up 13 digs.
Salem State was led by outside Brittany Roscoe (Lowell, Mass.) as she collected five kills on 17 attempts. Jazmin Santos (Lawrence, Mass.) and Samantha Duprey (Randolph, Mass.) each chipped in with three kills on the night. Santos led the defense with six digs. Setter MacKenzie Carpenter (Peabody, Mass.) was impressive as her relentless hustle allowed her to tally 13 assists in the loss.
Endicott now travels to Tufts University for the UMass Boston Invitational. The tournament has been moved to Tufts due to renovations in the UMass Boston gym. Endicott opens with regional powerhouse Tufts before taking on nationally ranked #4 Christopher Newport. Salem State will look to take down Massachusetts Maritime Academy next Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in Salem.
