BEVERLY, Mass. – In a matchup of conference
unbeatens, the Endicott women’s volleyball team lost on
Homecoming Saturday 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-19) to Roger
Williams at Endicott’s MacDonald Gymnasium.
The Gulls (10-11, 4-1 CCC) got 14-kill performances from senior
Elyse Barbour (Greenville, R.I.) and freshman
Alexandra Gearin (Los Angeles, Calif.) but it was
not enough to overcome the Hawks, who rebounded from a first set
loss to win their 14th-straight match dating back to
September 17th.
The Hawks saw leading attacker, sophomore Krystie
Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.), tally a match-high 17 kills
without recording an error. Luczynski sported a .548 kill
percentage. The sophomore got it done defensively as well,
blocking a total of six shots at the net including five solo
stops.
Roger Williams also had solid contributions offensively from
junior Kelsey Twarog (Barkhamsted, Conn.) and
senior Natasha Sopchak (Rhinebeck, N.Y.) who added
11 and 10 kills, respectively. Hawks hitters were found
throughout the match by setter Emily Lebowitz (Coventry,
Conn.) who totaled 43 assists
Endicott’s defenders countered the Roger Williams attack
throughout the match with Ashley Norley (Sudbury,
Mass.) leading all players with 33 digs.
Sarah Allshouse (Berthoud, Colo.), Gillian
Kucharski (Avon, Conn.) and Gearin also contributed with
21, 14 and 11 digs apiece.
Roger Williams defensive specialist Kelsee Loche (Millis,
Mass.) led her squad with 27 digs with Marilu
Gonzalez (Los Angeles, Calif.) adding 16 digs of her
own.
Endicott will be in action on Tuesday, October 18th
when they travel to conference opponent Curry for a 6:00 pm
match. Roger Williams looks to continue their hot streak when
they visit Western New England on the same day at 7:00
pm.
