Gulls best Schreiner, fall to Williams on day two of invitational

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women’s volleyball defeated Schreiner (Texas) 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-19) and fell to Williams 3-1 (25-13, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20) on day two of the Endicott Invitational, bringing their 2011 season record to 3-3.

Three Endicott players recorded nine kills and two more had six in a strong offensive effort by the Gulls against Schreiner.  Endicott won 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-19) as Callie Dolan (Westford, Mass.), Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.) and Elyse Barbour (Greenville, R.I.) all had nine kills in the match. 

Endicott as a team sported a .319 hit percentage with only 10 attack errors in this match.  Falyn Torelli (Pelham, N.Y.) and Hannah Dahlgren (Queensbury, N.Y.) each added six kills in the win. 

Setter Sarah Allshouse (Berthoud, Colo.) had 35 assists to lead the offense.  Defensively, Norley had a match-high 15 digs with both Allshouse and Gillian Kucharski (Avon, Conn.).

Schreiner’s Alexandra Wilson (League City, Texas) led her squad with seven kills with Molly Deering (Manchaca, Texas) chipping in with six.  Setters Jaemi Groves (Borger, Texas) and Kelli Bolen (Houston,Texas) tallied 16 and eight assists each. 

On defense, Jamie Burns (La Vernia, Texas) led the Mountaineers with nine digs while Brittany Boyett (Houston, Texas) added eight digs.

Williams won in four sets over Endicott (25-13, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20) behind a 19-kill, 16-dig effort from Claire Miller (Wilmette, Ill.), 49 assists from setter Amanda Schott (Niskayuna, N.Y.), and 22 digs from libero Aly McKinnon (Portola Valley, Calif.). 

Emily Baratta (San Diego, Calif.) and Emily Day (Los Angeles, Calif.) added 14 and 10 kills, respectively, while Miller, Lauren Agoubi (San Antonio, Texas), and Holly Harper (Austin, Texas) had 16, 10 and 10 digs a piece. 

The Ephs had seven team blocks with Raea Rasmussen (Amsterdam, Netherlands leading with one solo and three assisted blocks.

Endicott’s Gillian Kucharski led all players with 25 digs while Falyn Torelli and Elyse Barbour paced the offense with 11 and 10 kills.  Barbour and Hannah Dahlgren were effective at the net with Barbour having her hand in five blocks and Dahlgren stopped seven opposing attacks. 

The Gulls return to action on Wednesday, September 14th with a road match against Brandeis at 7:00 pm.
