Women’s Rugby Finishes Eighth At NCR 7s National Championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Endicott women's rugby team placed eighth overall at the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) 7s National Championships on Sunday evening.

On day one (4/30), the Gulls earned a hard-fought 17-12 win over Gannon but fell to Chicago in their second match of the day by a 22-0 score.

Day two featured a change to the tournament schedule due to four lightning delays.

All quarterfinal matches were cut while the top-4 teams in the bracket advanced automatically to the championship round. All remaining teams were placed in the 5-8 seed bracket, including Endicott who lost to St. Bonaventure (10-0) and Rochester (10-0) to conclude the national championships at eighth overall.

Melissa Drexler (Duxbury, Mass.), Peyton Gilson (Newport, Vt.), and Tess Merrill (Greenwich, N.Y.) all scored tries in the Gulls' 17-12 win over Gannon. Merrill also added a conversion to her stat line in the contest.

Endicott concludes its 2021-22 season at 20-10 overall. The Gulls won both the Colonial Coast Rugby Conference (CCRC) 15s and 7s championships and earned runner-up honors in the NCR Northeast Regional Championship.
