Women’s Rugby Wins CCRC 7’s Championship

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott women's rugby team posted a 4-0 record in the Colonial Coast Rugby Conference (CCRC) 7's Qualifier on Sunday evening to punch its ticket to the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) National Championships.

The Gulls defeated Wheaton (42-0), UMaine-Farmington (33-10), and Salve Regina (26-5) before downing Plymouth State (22-10) in the championship match.

Tess Merrill (Greenwich, N.Y.) was named Player of the Match for the championship. Merrill compiled two tries and three conversions to lead Endicott to the victory.

Overall in the tournament, Merrill registered seven tries and 10 conversions.

Melissa Drexler (Duxbury, Mass.) also contributed four tries and one conversion, while Peyton Gilson (Newport, Vt.) had three tries and Summer Cardoza (Edgartown, Mass.) produced two.

Rounding out the list of scorers were Isabella DiPalma (Saddle Brook, N.J.), Elektra Cheney (Collinsville, Conn.), Caitlin Kane (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Karissa Lee (Northborough, Mass.), Katelyn Gemmell (Andover, Mass.), and Kaitlyn Quinn (Salem, N.H.) as the group all found the try zone once, respectively.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott has earned the automatic qualifier into the NCR National 7's Tournament which takes place from April 30 to May 1 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Prior to nationals, the Gulls will compete in the Cross Conference 7's Series Tournament on Saturday, April 16.
