Women’s Rugby Earns Runner-Up Honors In Preseason 7’s Tournament

DANVERS, Mass. — The Endicott women's rugby team placed second overall in the Preseason 7's Tournament, hosted by the New England Sports Complex.

In the tournament's second place matchup, Endicott defeated Plymouth State, 10-0, behind tries from Summer Cardoza (Edgartown, Mass.) and Chloe Chen (Taipei City, Taiwan)

The win for the Gulls avenged a 20-10 loss to Plymouth State earlier in the day.

Prior to those two matches, Endicott defeated rival Salve Regina, 25-5, but fell to tournament champion Northeastern, 25-15.

Elektra Cheney (Collinsville, Conn.) led the Gulls with three tries on the day, while Katelyn Gemmell (Andover, Mass.) had two, and Melissa Drexler (Duxbury, Mass.), Elizabeth Lentino (Sudbury, Mass.), Sarah Corcoran (Westborough, Mass.), Peyton Gilson (Newport, Vt.), and Tess Merrill (Greenwich, N.Y.) all contributed one try, respectively, throughout the tournament.

Additionally, Lentino was named the Rookie of the Tournament for scoring her first try and making some big tackles defensively.
