Women’s Rugby Goes 4-1 In Home Tournament

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott women's rugby team posted a 4-1 record as hosts of the Cross Conference 7's Series Tournament on Saturday evening.

The Gulls earned victories Saint Michael's (35-7), Wheaton (27-0), WPI (15-0), and Providence (34-0, semifinals) before falling to Plymouth State in the championship game, 12-10.

Melissa Drexler (Duxbury, Mass.) paced Endicott offensively with four tries, while Ashley McElhinney (Natick, Mass.), Tess Merrill (Greenwich, N.Y.), Elektra Cheney (Collinsville, Conn.), and Katelyn Gemmell (Andover, Mass.) all scored three tries apiece throughout the tournament, respectively.

Two of McElhinney's three tries came in the championship match.

Meanwhile, the Gulls also saw Isabella DiPalma (Saddle Brook, N.J.) and Peyton Gilson (Newport, Vt.) touch the try zone twice and Jamie Smith (Northborough, Mass.) score once.

As for conversions, Merrill compiled two throughout the tournament and Drexler had one.

Endicott will host the Colonial Coast Rugby Conference (CCRC) Qualifier on Sunday, April 10.
