BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott women's rugby student-athletes Elektra Cheney (Collinsville, Conn.), Melissa Drexler (Duxbury, Mass.), Katelyn Gemmell (Andover, Mass.), and Tess Merrill (Greenwich, N.Y.) have all been named to the Colonial Coast Rugby Conference (CCRC) Women's 7s All-Star Team, as announced by the conference yesterday.
Along with the Gulls' four selections to the squad, Endicott head coach Carly Baker will serve as a member of the coaching staff for the CCRC Women's 7s All-Star Team.
All five members of the Endicott women's rugby program will represent the Gulls in the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) Women's All-Star 7s National Cup from January 22-23 in Houston, Texas at AVEVA Stadium, home of the Houston SabreCats.
The All-Star 7s tournament features the best NCR rugby student-athletes from both Division I and Small College, and includes up to 24 conference-based teams.
The tournament is used as a platform for selection to the NCR Women's Select 7s Program, which most recently competed in the 2021 Falcon 7s Tournament hosted by the American Rugby Pro Training Center.
YEAR IN REVIEW
Endicott, who was ranked as high as No. 2 in the country throughout the fall season, finished its 2021 season with a 6-2 overall record en route to capturing the CCRC Championship.
From there, the Gulls advanced to the NCR Northeast Regional Championship, but, ultimately fell to No. 6 nationally ranked SUNY Cortland, 34-10, in the title game.
