Barnes Named ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, Davis and Tierney All-Stars

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Endicott led the New England region with three members of its women's lacrosse team named as 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England All-Stars, including junior Kelsey Barnes (Mendham, N.J.), who was named the New England Defensive Player of the Year.

Barnes was joined on the All-New England All-Star team by seniors Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) at midfield and Kelly Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.) at the attack position.

Barnes led the Gulls' defensive corps to a 13-8 record, their eighth consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) title and an NCAA tournament appearance this season. A top ranked defense all-season long, Endicott only allowed 55 goals in conference play. Barnes posted 41 ground balls, 28 caused turnovers and seven draw controls in her junior year and was named the CCC Defensive Player of the Year, while earning her third straight All-CCC spot.

Tierney was the team leader in points with an even 100 on the year, thanks to a balanced combination of 48 goals and 52 assists. Tierney was second in the CCC in both points and assist, and also grabbed 24 ground balls and won 12 draw controls throughout the season in which she was named to the All-CCC First Team.

Davis, the CCC Offensive Player of the Year, had 69 goals, good for second in the CCC and added 20 assists for a total of 89 points. She also grabbed 85 draws, good for fifth in the conference, and picked up 33 ground balls.

Five Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Lacrosse players and five from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) including all three major award winners headlined the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Women's Lacrosse All-Star team, announced Thursday by the ECAC office.

Taylor Scialdone of Western New England University was named Rookie of the Year, while Curry's Mel Brickey was the only other CCC member to be named an All-Star.

On the Offensive side of the game, Trinity College's Megan Leonhard was selected as the Offensive Player of the Year.
