Gulls Open CCC Season with Rivalry Win over Gordon

WENHAM, MA— Endicott College senior midfielder Holly Davis (Guilford, Conn.) netted five goals to lead the Gulls to an 18-10 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's lacrosse win over the host Fighting Scots Saturday afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex. The game marked the first league matchup for both teams, with the Gulls pulling their overall record to an even 3-3, while handing the Scots their first loss of the year (3-1).

The Gulls received goals from seven different scorers in the win, as Callie Murphy (Woburn, Mass.), Lauren Todd (Newfields, N.H.), and Kelly Tierney (Sr./South Hadley, Mass.) recorded three apiece.

Siri Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) booked two, and Isabelle Sipperly (Greenwich, N.Y.) and Katie Tierney (South Hadley, Mass.) chipped in one each. Tierney added two assists while Davis, Todd, Caitlin Pratt (Bow, N.H.), and Rachel Campos (Shrewsbury, Mass.) all had singular helpers in the game, with Campos winning a career high 10 draw controls in the process.

Keeper Rachel Socolow (Westford, Mass.) needed just three saves to preserve the win for Endicott.

Leading the charge for Gordon were captains Anna Blomberg (Simsbury, Conn.) and Stephanie Fitzgerald (Groveland, Mass.), each of whom recorded four points in the outing, Blomberg off three goals and one assist and Fitzgerald off one goal and three assists.

Jane Dietrich (West Hartford, Conn.) bested Socolow twice on the day, both in the second half, while captain Alana Woods (Medford, Mass.), Olivia Balloveras (Freeport, N.Y.), Jessie Castelline (Concord, Mass.), and Bailey Grinnell (South Hamilton, Mass.) each netted once for the Scots. Keepers Danielle Maguire (Braintree, Mass.) and Julianne Kirkpatrick (Rochester, N.Y.) split time in the net, combining for five saves in the loss.

Endicott won the battle on the draw by a 19-11 margin, with Davis complementing Campos's effort with four draw controls of her own.

The Gulls wasted little time getting on the board as Todd netted her first of the day off a Pratt feed at the 29:33 mark. That lead stretched to 3-0 over the next seven minutes off a man-up unassisted tally from Murphy and another solo effort from Tierney at 25:17 and 22:30, respectively. Blomberg put a stop to that run at 22:05 to notch the Scots' first of the day, collecting a feed from behind the cage from Fitzgerald and besting Socolow to the upper corner to make it 3-1.

Endicott's Mason built that lead back to three on an unassisted crease roll, but Gordon's Grinnell and Woods responded with back-to-back goals to pull the Scots to within one (4-3) at 15:55.

The Gulls, however, went on a 9-1 run over the remaining minutes of the first and opening minutes of the second to establish a healthy 13-4 advantage over their hosts at 22:56. And though the Scots would rally late to outscore Endicott 5-2 in the final 12 minutes, the Gulls were able to hold off the hosts until time expired.

Endicott returns to CCC action on Wednesday, March 27 for a 4 p.m. start against Curry at Endicott Stadium.

The Scots will look to get back on track on Monday, March 25 as they host non-conference New England College at 5 p.m.
