BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College's Merry MacDonald (Braintree, Mass.) and Jenna Lazar (Milton, Mass.) have both been named to the 2009 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-New England Regional Team, it was announced. MacDonald, The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Year, was named to the First-Team while Lazar garnered Second-Team honors. The left-side of the Gulls infield helped lead the Endicott softball team to its seventh consecutive TCCC Championship and their seventh straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.
MacDonald was an offensive force for the Gulls as she was second on the team in batting average (.436) and runs scored (50) while leading the team in hits (68), homeruns (11), RBI (52), total bases (111), and slugging percentage (.712). MacDonald also stole 13 bases on 16 attempts and had a .464 on-base percentage. The All-TCCC First-Team selection also led the team in assists with 103 while holding a .970 fielding percentage.
For the second consecutive year, junior Jenna Lazar was named to the All-Region team with a First-Team nod in 2008. The lead-off hitter for the Gulls helped set the table for the offense as she led the team in batting average (.444) and runs scored (59). Lazar was second on the team in hits with 59 and hit a pair of homeruns this season while driving in 24 runs. Lazar, also an All-TCCC First-Team selection, led the Gulls in on-base percentage at .582 and drew a team-leading 40 walks in 2009.
The Gulls wrapped up their 2009 season at 38-9 overall including a 23-1 mark in TCCC contests. Endicott went 1-2 in the NCAA tournament and had their campaign end with a loss to Springfield College, 4-3.
