BEVERLY, Mass. - Endicott College junior softball player Merry MacDonald (Braintree, Mass.) has been named the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association Player of the Week as announced on Wednesday by the NEISCA offices. This is the second honor for MacDonald this week as she was already announced as the TCCC Co-Player of the Week on Monday morning. MacDonald helped guide the Gulls to a perfect 8-0 week last week including impressive double-header sweeps over Wheaton College and the University of New England.
The third baseman hit for both power and average as the Gulls stretched the team's winning streak to 10 games after going 8-0 in the week. She batted .586 (17-for-29) with two home runs and 14 RBI, while hitting safely and driving in at least one run in seven of eight games played. MacDonald collected six multi-hit and four multi-run contests, while also crossing the plate 14 times. Among her top performances was a four-hit game against Wheaton (Mass.) that was followed by back-to-back three-hit efforts against Regis.
MacDonald looks to lead the 3rd-ranked Gulls in an important conference matchup on Thursday against Western New England College (14-4, 6-0 TCCC) in a double-header scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m.
