BEVERLY, Mass. - Today's softball double-header between Endicott College and Western New England College scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. has been postponed due to unplayable field conditions. The game was to be the The Commonwealth Conference opener for both teams and a makeup date has yet to be determined. The Gulls currently sit at 7-3 overall after completing their southern swing to Orlando, Fla.
Endicott's Casey Shanley (Billerica, Mass.) was named TCCC Player of the Week as she led the team with a pair of back-to-back five RBI games in wins over Wisconsin Stevens-Point, 9-1, and Framingham State College, 13-4. For the season, the senior is tied for the team lead in hits (11) and heads the Gulls in RBI (12), total bases (16), and slugging (.552) all while hitting an impressive .379 in 10 games played.
Jenna Bortolotti posted a 2-1 weekly record with a 1.98 ERA and was honored as the TCCC Pitcher of the Week. Bortolotti tossed a seven-hit shutout against Springfield College in which she struck out eight and walked just one. She also allowed just one run in 4.2 innings of work en route to an 8-3 victory against Smith, and added her second eight-strikeout performance of the week in a tough 4-1 loss to Montclair State. In 17.2 total innings, Bortolotti struck out 18 batters and walked just seven.
The Gulls will return to action on Friday when Endicott hosts cross-town rival Gordon College in a TCCC double-header scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
