Box Score - Game One / Box Score - Game Two

BOSTON, Mass. - The Endicott softball team scored 25 runs on 24 hits, as the Gulls ran their win streak to 11 games with a doubleheader sweep over Wentworth in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader at Carr Diamond. Endicott took game one by a 9-0 final and took the nightcap, 16-3. The Gulls improve to 28-4 (19-1 TCCC) this season while the Leopards drop to 9-21 (7-15 TCCC).

The Gulls got all the offense they would need in the first game during the second inning, scoring four times. Hayley Hovanessian (Farmington, Conn.) walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sarah Spaziano (Norton, Mass.) and came in to score when Ashley Wright (Merrimack, N.H.) hit a ground-rule double. Wright would score when the next batter of the game, freshman Katherine McGann (Topsfield, Mass.) hit a ground-rule double to the same spot. Jenna Lazar (Milton, Mass.) tripled in McGann and would later score on a wild pitch.

The fourth inning would see Endicott score three more times, with two of those runs coming on a Merry MacDonald (Braintree, Mass.) home run, and McGann would account for a two-run fifth inning, as she had an RBI single and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Sophomore Jenna Bortolotti (Milton, Mass.) picked up the win, improving to 14-2 on the year. She allowed just three hits while striking out eight. Lazar, Spaziano, Wright, and McGann each had two hits, with MacDonald and McGann each driving in two.

Sophomore Amanda Schiffer (Seymour, Conn.) took the loss for Wentworth, falling to 0-2 on the year. She would allow nine runs on nie hits and strike out two.

Game two saw Endicott score single runs in the first, second, and third innings before tallying three runs in the fourth on a Casey Shanley (Billerica, Mass.) home run to make it a 6-0 contest. Wentworth got a single run in the home half of the inning when junior Caylee Johanson (Windsor, Conn.), who reached on a one-out walk, scored after Jen Giudice (Central Valley, N.Y.) singled and continued to round the bases on an error. She would be thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

The two teams traded two-run frames in the sixth inning, with senior Meghan Sargent (Salisbury, Mass.) driving in a run on a sacrifice fly and Hovhanessian recording an RBI double in the top half of the inning while Wentworth sophomore Bridget Souza (Medford, Mass.) hitting a towering, two-run home run to center in the bottom of the inning.

Endicott opened the flood gates in the top of the seventh, scoring eight times, keyed by a MacDonald two-run single and a three-run home run off the bat of Wright.

Senior Jackie Collier (Swampscott, Mass.) improved to 12-2 on the year, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and striking out seven. Sargent collected three hits while Lazar, Shanley, Hovhanessian, and Spaziano each recording two hits. Shanley and Wright drove in three runs apiece.

Johanson took the loss for Wentworth to fall to 6-15 on the year. She allowed 16 runs (11 earned) on 15 hits and struck out four. Wentworth's offense was limited to four hits, while Souza drove in two runs.

The Blue and Green return to action on Monday when they host Babson College in non-conference action at 1:00 p.m. Wentworth is idle until Saturday when the Leopards travel to Salve Regina for a TCCC double-header at 12:00 p.m.
