THOMPSON, Conn. - Facing a four stroke deficit after day one of play at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship, the Endicott golf team surged up the leader board to finish day two with a five stroke lead, claiming the 2023 CCC title. The championship roster of Tyler Baker (Falmouth, Mass.)Brady Burke (Bedford, N.H.)Frank Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.)Kyle Mahoney (Braintree, Mass.), and Will Pierce (Melrose, Mass.) led the Gulls to the program's second straight title, and ninth title in program history.

Endicott was led by Baker's individual medalist honors, posting rounds of 71 and 74 for a two-day total of 145, two strokes ahead of the runner-up. Baker used a tournament-leading 26 pars and a tournament-best -3 scoring on all par 5's to keep the Gulls on top of the CCC.

Round one saw Pierce tie for fourth with a round of 76 while Frank Mahoney tied for eighth with a round of 78, while Burke and Kyle Mahoney finished with rounds of 82. The day two surge was spear headed by Baker's 74, while Burke, Frank Mahoney, and Pierce all posted round of 76 to tie for fifth.

Head coach Tom Smith has now led the Gulls to seven CCC title in his 12 years at the helm of the program, which leads all CCC programs during that stretch.

With the 2023 title in hand, the Gulls will now travel to Nicholasville, Ky. to compete in the NCAA DIII Championship at Keene Trace.

BEYOND THE SCORECARD

  • Endicott led the four-team field in scoring on both the par four holes (4.25, +25) and par five holes (5.13, +5), while finishing third on the par 3's (3.53, +21).
  • The medalist honor at the CCC Championship is the first of Baker's career, as a Gull claimed medalist honors at the Championship, and the Fall Qualifier (Burke).
  • Since the CCC earned automatic qualifier status in the 2013-14 season, Endicott has claimed five of the nine titles.
  • Endicott's best finish to date as a program has been a 31st place showing in 2013-14, the same year in which Austin Teal '15 finished tied for 9th individually.
